Queen of Maine

Queen Anne's Lace otherwise known as a wild carrot, considered a weed... but her little purple-black flower center made me curious about the history of the most popular "weed" in Maine. Story suggests it is a drop of Queen Anne's blood after pricking herself with a needle while making lace.

And this is what Shakespeare has to say about it:
"The man in the moon drinks claret,
But he is a dull Jack-a-dandy;
Would he know a sheep's head from a Carrot
He should learn to drink cider and brandy."
Song of Mad Tom in _Midsummer Night's Dream.
